Before Apple's higher-end chargers learned to float onto the back of the phone, they were little cradles that held the phone upright on your desk.
All these docks have a 3.5 mm audio line-out, so a docked iPhone could pipe sound straight into powered speakers while it charged and synced.
They do not support fast charging from USB-C power adapters.
For a few years, you could colour-match the charging dock on your desk to the phone in your hand — a lovely, forgotten detail Apple eventually let lapse as the world moved to MagSafe.
